487 - Last Look Back September

First up let me start by saying that Blogger is being evil and hasn't been sending me emails saying I've been getting comments for the past two weeks or so! I'm not ignoring you're lovely comments and hopefully I've replied to everyone. Doh! I'll make sure to regularly check my comments section from now on.

So this post is probably going to look a little barer compared to the massive six page post from last month. This time I decide to tackle number four on my Smashbook challenge list.

So 10 things about me. Let's go!

485 - Regular Shoooooooooow

If you haven't seen Regular Show, you really need to watch it. It's so funny. If you like Adventure Time, I think you'll enjoy Regular Show. You know who else likes Regular Show? MY MOM!

Anyway, last night I got my perler bead on again and made Mordecai and Rigby, who are the main characters from the show. Patterns are from Kandi Patterns again.

484 - Work In Progress Wednesday

Woo, work in progress Wednesday. It's nice my to do basket being so empty. Donald's birthday is next Wednesday, so I'll finally be able to show off what I've been working on! But until then, it's still a secret.

First up my latch hook snow man. I did a bit of the newest section I had started, and then realised my hand was being shit because I hacked into it yesterday while peeling potatoes. Ow. So in order to make some noticeable progress, I decided to mark out the sections I've still left to do.

WIP

Counting where a new section starts is one of the most annoying things, so it's nice to know I've done it all now! It looks doable now it's all marked out.

Next up we have the sock witch kit I started the other day.

WIP

I have a couple of things to say on this. One -  I'm a bit rubbish at hand sewing. Two - It's black thread on a green sock. It's never going to look good. Ha ha. This kit is made for children, yet I seem to be doing a messy ass job of it. She's still looking cute as though. I'll love her even if she is deformed.

482 - Bake Once a Month September

This month I wanted to bake somthing that wasn't cupcake (as I've made a lot of those) so I went for some brownies (after my failed attempt from last time).

This time I opted for peanut butter brownies, and I got the recipe off BBC Good Food.

What you need:

  • 225g crunchy peanut butter.
  • 200g bar dark chocolate, broken into pieces.
  • 280g soft light brown sugar.
  • 3 medium eggs.
  • 100g self-raising flour.

How to:
  1. Set aside 50g each of the peanut butter and chocolate. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a 20cm square baking tin with baking parchment. Gently melt remaining peanut butter, chocolate and all the sugar in a pan, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has just about melted. Turn off heat and use a wooden spoon to beat in the eggs one by one. Stir in the flour and scrape into the tin.
  2. Melt reserved peanut butter in the microwave on High for 45 secs, or in a pan, until runny, then drizzle over the brownie. Bake for 30-35 mins until it has a crust, but the middle still seems slightly uncooked.
  3. Melt reserved chocolate, drizzle over the brownie, then cool in the tin before cutting into squares.
Nom sounding right?

Brownies

I can confirm that they taste lovely, and even better, they actually taste like brownies. This is such an easy recipe as everything really happens in one pan. Lovely!

480 - New Year's Look

Okay we're not really that close to the end of the year, but really we are! Arg!

I've been stressing a lot lately about my New Year's Resolutions, mainly my Christmas ones. I was looking over them the other night and I just know I'm not going to finish all of them. Sigh.

But even worse than that I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself and making crafting stressful and not fun. Like just now when I'm making something for Donald's birthday, my head is going "why are you making this!?! You could be doing something for Christmas!". Yes I am insane.

So I thought I would take a look at my list and see what I think I can do and what I don't think I can, and then I'll hopefully feel better.

Read 50 books.
Doable. I've only got 10 left to read. Not worried about this one.

Make 25 Christmas items for 2012.
Hmm, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do this. I really really really want to make a tree skirt for this year, and I'm planning on buying the wool for it next week. So I'll see how I go, but I'm not going to push myself. I'm also getting a couple of Christmas kits, but again, I don't want to rush. There will be a Christmas next year after all.

Make 10 craft kits.
Only three left to go. Doable.

Draw/paint 10 things.
Only a couple left to go. Doable.

Make 5 knitting projects.
Only one left to go but I'm not sure if there's anything I want to knit.

Make 5 crochet projects.
Four left but crochet takes a long time, so again I don't think I'll manage this one.

Make a quilt.
Nope. I've not even started (apart from save the t-shirts and research it online). I want to do this properly, so this might get pushed to next year's list.

Finish decorating my dolls house.
Same as the quilt. I don't want to rush it. Plus I still need to buy some things to finish it off which I'm not sure I'll be able to get before the end of the year. Probably move to next year.

Get my gamer score to 15,000.
Ha ha no! When you spend all your time crafting, there is no time to play Xbox. Ha ha!

Bake at least once a month.
Again, doable. Booked out so this will be easy. In fact I hopefully plan to bake tonight.

So it feels a bit better to get that off my chest, not that anyone probably cares apart from me. I've done loads this year and I'm really proud of it, but I don't to make craft shit by rushing stuff.

I'm not giving up. I'm going to keep going, but at a less manic pace. And who knows, I might tick a few more off before the end of the year.

Now here's a picture of a fat bunny so this post isn't all words!

478 - Cake band

So I said I would finish it and I did! Woo!

I've had this cake band kit since last year, and due to the kit coming with wrong fabric, I had to wait till this year to get it done (and buy more Aida band myself). Cutting the Aida to fit the ribbon was really scary as I was convinced I had cut it wrong.

Cake band

Cake band

This is what the band looks like wrapped round on itself, and as you can see it's pretty small (that was nothing to do with me, that was the size of the kit). So I'm not sure if it'll actually fit any cake I make, I might have to have a gap at the back ha ha!
Cake band

As you can see I also got cute little Christmas tree pins to hold it together at the back.
Cake band

So we'll see how it goes when I get round to making a Christmas cake (let's face it, it's not going to be on for very long is it?). As long as my cake turns out better than last year, we'll be off to a better start.

477 - Work in Progress Wednesday

Ah the typical late night work in progress posts. This week I started doing more of my latch hook snowman. And then I got a bit bored if I'm being honest.

WIP

Yup, like two lines! Grr.

And then I started my Christmas cake band.

WIP

I had to cut the band to fit the ribbon it's going to be mounted on and I had a horrible moment when I thought I had cut it too much. According to Donald, my face looked worried. Ha ha. But as you can see, the stitching does indeed fit *phew*. I'm really hoping to finish this tomorrow (pop back tomorrow night to see if I do ha ha!). Though mounting it means getting my sewing machine out (insert scared face).

And alongside this I'm also working on something for the boy's birthday which I can't show you, and I'm trying to get done in the times when he's not in the house ha ha! Can't wait to show that off though.

Happy Wednesday folks.

475 - Mood Board Monday 10

So this is the last Moodboard Monday that I need to do because I've finished the 10 I aimed to make this year! Woo. Obviously I'll still make them as it's fun time, but it won't be a regular feature anymore (oh god what am I going to post every second Monday now?!?).

473 - Batman Tableware

On May the 3rd last year I posted about this cool new project I was starting with my Batman tableware.

Almost 400 blog posts later, and I'm done! I can't believe it took me so long. To be honest, I just put it off for so long, but I'm happy to say I finished it...like an hour ago. So check it out (I know you might have seen most of it during my updates, but it's nice to see it all together).

471 - Swallow cross stitch

So as you know from my past couple of work in progress posts I've been working on a cross stitch swallow kit that I bought from my lovely and talented friend Gina. I finally finished and framed it last night, and I'm so happy with how it turned out.

Untitled

Untitled

In case you are wondering about the size, it's framed in a 10 inch hoop, so it's pretty big. I cut it out and stuck it on some nice fabric because the Aida it was stitched on was just too small for the hoop I wanted to use, so I decided to bond it on to other fabric.

Untitled

So here is it hanging on out the side of my bookcase (yup it's pretty much as wide as my bookcase). Loving it!

470 - Work in Progress Wednesday

Hey, so I've realised I've made Christmas stuff in the past couple of days and not updated my Christmas makes list! As I said things will swap about as I get things free in the months coming up to Christmas, or more awesome things pop up!
  1. Christmas coaster - tree.
  2. Christmas coaster - Santa.
  3. Snowman latch hook kit.
  4. Lickie Ted Christmas stitch kit.
  5. Reindeer cake band stitch kit.
  6. Christmas tag.
  7. Christmas tag.
  8. Christmas tag.
  9. Christmas tag.
  10. Christmas tag.
  11. Christmas tag.
  12. Christmas kitten stitch kit.
  13. Cross stitch kit.
  14. Cross stitch kit.
  15. Christmas card.
  16. Christmas card.
  17. Christmas card.
  18. Christmas card.
  19. Tree skirt.
  20.  Christmas nyan cat perler beads.
  21. Christmas card wreath.
  22. Wild Olive Snowman plush.
  23. Christmas Space Invaders piece.
  24. Christmas Garland.
  25. Magazine items I'm bound to get at Christmas.
I can decided whether it looks doable or scary?!? Because with Christmas stuff I'll want  it all done by the end of November. Eek! Oh well, I can only give it my best shot. My in-progress basket is looking nice and empty right now so hopefully I can crack on with a lot of stuff.
So this week I've been working on my Batman tableware and I am so close to being finished I am ridic excited!

So I finished the last place mat, which is the Joker.

Untitled

And I've finally moved on to the tablecloth.

Untitled

I'm a bit bothered about the the fact the outlines seem to be down on the fabric twice (obviously my fault but I started this a year or so ago, so it's hard to remember), but I think it's going to turn out great. So close to being done! Eek!

Pop by the blog tomorrow to see a finished product! Woo!
