193 - My Halloween Costume

So somehow this year I ended up with three costumes! Phew, not sure how that happened.

Costume 1 - The Unicorn.

At work we had decided to dress up as red and white unicorns. Our company's new sort of logo is a unicorn, and the colours are red and white, so we went with the company theme.

This is also one of the slogans from our work's unicorn poster. We had to make the horns ourself, but dressing in red and white was quite easy. Also lead to a lot of horn jokes and a lot of poking other people in the face/neck.

Costume 2 - Poor man's cat.

I was helping out at a roller derby bout on Saturday evening, so some of us were dressing up a little. I decided to go as a black and white cat (I do have ears and a tail on) to be dressed up a little and also to support the boy as it was his first time reffing in public.

Costume 3 - Marty Mcfly.

This was obviously my main costume and I wore it to my mate's Halloween party on Saturday night. Most people knew what I was after I told them, but only one person (Martin, who is awesome) got who I was right away.

192 - The pumpkin!

So this year I ended up making two pumpkins! One at work and my own one at home.

At work we were split into group for costumes/pumpkin making. As we had decided to dress as unicorns for a costume, we decided to carve ourselves a unicorn too. Working from a picture I found on flickr, this was my attempt.

We had some "not nice" comments about what it was actually supposed to be, but I think we did quite well. We only had an hour, but most people still said they couldn't see what it was supposed to be. A pacman pumpkin won. So obvious!

Tonight I carved my own pumpkin which is now sitting proudly outside my door! :)

Hopefully nothing bad happens to him. I'm not used to putting my pumpkins outside, I usually keep them safe indoors!

191 - Favourite Halloween crafts

I love Halloween themed toys and things. You get a lot of them in TK Maxx around this time of year, and I tend to buy a lot of them. I feel I should spend more time crafting Halloween things, but we don't really have the space for things or really have a reason to have stuff up considering it's just me and the boy and we're not having a party or anything.

When I have children, I think our house is going to be mental. My plan is to be good enough at sewing by then that I can make my kids whatever costumes they want. Living the dream. Anyway, here are so lovely Halloween crafts that I would love to be able to make, and hopefully will at some point!

189 - Halloween Food

If you're having a Halloween party, Halloween food is a must! Even if you're just watching bad horror movies, you need some Halloween food. And I think I've got a blog post lined up for everything else Halloween based, so let's take a look at some yummy treats.

These all look amazing! Nom nom! Of course, if you're just watching some horror movies with mates I would suggest pizza, pop corn, fizzy juice and ice cream. Simple but nom!

188 - Pumpkins!

I've always had a pumpkin for as long as I can remember at Halloween. My mum doesn't like carving them but I always talked her into buying one so we could display it proudly in our window. Now I'm not living with my mum, I'm still keen to have a pumpkin. We bought ours at the weekend, and it's a lovely one. I can't wait to carve it and sit it outside out flat's door.

I like carving something different every year (or trying to at least) so this year we've decided to attempt this pumpkin.

I'll put up photos when I've done it and you can judge how well I did. Think we'll probably give it classic pumpkin eyes and a nose though. I bought some plastic fangs from Asda for 7p! Bargain.

While I was settled on what pumpkin idea I wanted to do, I also found some other amazingly cool ones on Pinterest! Check them out!

I had made the puking one before and it looked awesome! But as this year's one is going outside, I doubt the neighbours would enjoy the image.

I'll probably find more over the next few days, so why not check out my Halloween Pinterest board.

187 - Costumes!

So this year I'm going to a Halloween party at one of my best mate's houses and I can't wait. I love dressing up and such. My costume idea for this year is Marty McFly. I think I have all the pieces but I'm not sure how it's going to look when it's all together (photos will go up after the party). However, if it looks something like this, I'll be happy.

Maybe a bit sexier than I'll look? Not sure. Anyway, here are some of the awesome costume I found on Pinterest, including an amazing dog one, which if I had a dog (preferably a pug) I would be making!

186 - This is Halloween...

So this is the week running up to Halloween. And I have to say, I love Halloween! It's one of my favourite holidays, and I am so happy I'm getting to go to a costume party this year. Woo! I once threw a Halloween party a couple of years ago and I loved it. Decorating and making up food and things was great. I wish I lived in America, because we just don't go in for it as much as they do across the pond. But I still love it on a crazy level. So to celebrate, here are some Halloween themed posts in the week leading up to the big day.

185 - Photos from the last few days...

So on Thursday I went to London with work, just for the one day. It was a lot of travelling, and confirmed my suspicions that I do get travel sick. I have to say, it was one of the worst days of my working life, for a number of reasons, but I found a Krispy Kreme doughnut stand! Day made. I love maple doughnuts and you basically can't get them in Scotland without custard in them. Gross!

Yesterday me and mama Pixxie went out for afternoon tea. I asked for the salmon sandwiches but unfortunately they were fresh salmon and not like the cooked stuff (yes I am not posh at all). So I ate like half of one and then just had the cream cheese on the other one. Still nom though. We also had macaroons (first one ever for me), scones with cream and jam and cupcakes. Nom! Also had the day off work which was awesome.

My mum also brought me an awesome present! She works in a nursery and often mums and dads bring in bags of things for the kids to do arts and craft with. Well one mum brought in a huge bag of thread and beads which had these lovely skeins of ANCHOR thread in them. Two multi-tonal ones and a white one! Amazing!

Today I have been quite lazy, though I did go and buy some large knitting needles to start my first project in my Stitch 'n Bitch book. No wool yet though, so I'll have to wait to start it. I also made a card which I can't show you just yet. Now I'm off to watch the X Factor and possibly order some foods.

184 - Robot Roll Call!

I add all the photos I do of crafty things to Flickr. I like adding them to groups and sharing them with people who love that sort of craft (even if most of the other things in the group put my work to shame).

Sometimes I forget to have a browse of all the lovely things that other people put up, so today while I was checking out a comment on one of my photos, I started browsing through the embroidery group on Flickr. Go check it out, it is amazing! And if you embroider, add your own photos! It's a fun way to interact with other crafty people. I have to share some of my favourites with you! I saw some things that just made me drool! They are so cool! (And if it rhymes it must be true, that is a rule I live by.)

First up, you will know my love of Tom Servo and the rest of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 characters from the hanky design I made for the man shape a few months ago. Well Children Playing With Fire has done an amazing set of all the characters! Check them out. I would love to have them on my wall.

183 - They all float...

So, it's finally done. My piece for the Feeling Stitchy's Covered in Stitches contest is done!

As you know, I picked Stephen King's IT as my book for the piece, so I'll just let the photos speak for themselves.

Finished piece in the frame! Love it!

Here's what I wrote to go with my piece:

"My entry for the contest is my design of a book cover for Stephen King's horror novel IT. I took the idea from a number of different covers for the book I have seen over the years.

I wanted the blocks of colour of Georgie's rain wear, the clown in the gutter and the balloon to stand out the most, so everything else (like Georgie's actual leg, the sail boat and the street) were done quite plain and basic to make the colours stand out more.

I stitched the piece on a grey fabric to represent the gloomy, stormy day that these events take place on."

Now I have to wait and see what happens with it, and I might even win some sexy prizes. Either way I'm extremely happy with my piece, and it will now decorate my living room in a lovely fashion.

There's still plenty of time for you to enter if you have the stitching bug, so head over to Feeling Stitchy and get involved!

182 - I should be asleep...

But instead I'm up finishing off my piece for the Feeling Stitchy Covered in Stitchy contest. I need to iron the pieces and take photos, but I can show you it tomorrow. Very happy with it, though I wish I knew how to do more stitches some times.

I tried to learn how to knit over the weekend (well start) anyway, and I think I mastered the purl stitch for a change! I can defiantly do the knit stitch, cast on and finish off, I just never know how to get the last piece of wool (the bit that was attached to the ball) to tuck away neatly. Never works! More practise needed. But having read a little more of Stitch 'n Bitch, I feel a lot better. I'm going to work through the book and hopefully master it all. I have another "learn to knit book" which I mainly bought for the patterns, but Stitch 'n Bitch is just better laid out. Also tried a bit of crochet again, but I still suck at that! I will get there!

Anyway, here's a little photo of a Christmas tree decoration I finished last week but Flickr was being annoying so I couldn't upload it! Night folks!

181 - Come on knitting love

Two treasuries in a row? No I'm not getting lazy! I've just been feeling inspired lately, and things treasuries and Pinterest boards are a great way to express this.

Basically, I've decided I am going to spend some time over the weekend try to master knitting and/or crocheting again! I will not fail myself this time. I know I can do it, I just need to set my mind to it. Therefore I'm been feeling a lot of knitting love (hence the Bon Iver inspired title).

I'm not saying I can make something over the weekend, but hopefully I can stitch for a few rows without dropping/gaining stitches or going insane! Wish me luck!
